What does Wing Reflector mean?
A wing reflector diverts the light’s rays from a light bulb downward onto the plant. The wings of the reflector further capture additional light and focus it towards all the plant’s surfaces that are placed beneath the light.
Without a reflector, the light from the bulb is dispersed upwards, as well as downwards, and much of the beneficial lighting is lost on the ceiling and walls of the growroom, grow tent or greenhouse. A basic wing reflector is normally made of aluminum and features a bent design that resembles wings. Reflectors come in a variety of lengths and widths to suit various size of lighting systems. Most winged reflectors are designed for horizontal bulb placement, but there are reflectors available that allow vertical bulb placement.

Unlike traditional reflectors, a wing reflector further captures and reflects the light’s rays onto the plants. A wing reflector is not air-cooled, so it reflects not only the light of the bulb, but also its heat. The additional heat may be welcome in a cold greenhouse during a cold snap.
Recently, manufacturers have worked to improve the basic design of the wing reflector. Many commercially available wing reflector models feature adjustable wings that can increase the growing space beneath the light by 65 to 88 per cent. Some wing reflectors also have a patented glass polymer coating that lets the grower further adjust the color spectrum of the lighting system.
